The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a civil servant on suspicion of soliciting and accepting bribes amounting to approximately RM30mil in connection with assessment taxes.
According to a source, the man, who is in his 50s, allegedly committed the act involving several companies in exchange for assisting in the reduction of assessment tax payments totaling RM140mil.
"The man was arrested at about 12.30am today while hiding at a hotel in the Klang Valley.
"Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, who serves as a unit director, allegedly committed the acts between 2025 and 2026," the source said Wednesday (Oct 21).
The source added that a six-day remand order, effective until Oct 26, was issued against the man by Magistrate Ezrene Zakariah following an application by the MACC at a Putrajaya Magistrate's Court Wednesday morning.
MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and said the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009. - Bernama
