MACC strengthens cooperation with Mauritius anti-graft body

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has strengthened cooperation with the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) of Mauritius following an official working visit by MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman to Mauritius from Oct 12-14.

The MACC said the visit served as a platform for both commissions to share experiences and gain better understanding of each other's mandates and approaches to combat corruption and financial crimes.

"During the meeting with FCC director-general T. Dawoodarry, Abd Halim expressed an interest in exploring closer cooperation between the two institutions, following their introduction at the Seventh GlobE Network Plenary Meeting in Vienna, Austria, in August.

"He also expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome and programme arrangements by FCC, which enabled the MACC delegation to gain a deeper understanding of the commission's operations and the experiences of its officers," it said in a statement on Monday (Oct 19).

The MACC said the visit included discussions on its roles and mandate, an introduction to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Academy (Maca), as well as an overview of the FCC's mandate and an exchange of experiences with officers from the agency.

Key areas of focus during the working sessions included corruption investigations, legislation, asset recovery and management, as well as education and prevention.

"This sharing provides a foundation for both parties to identify areas of cooperation that align with the respective needs of their institutions," it added.

The programme also included meetings between Abd Halim and the Mauritius Attorney General Gavin Patrick Cyril Glover, as well as the director of public prosecutions, Abdool Rashid Ahmine, at his office in Port Louis.

The MACC said that in his closing remarks, Abd Halim expressed his appreciation for the FCC's willingness in sharing experiences and views throughout the visit.

"He expressed hope that the good relationship established could be continued through communication and the exploration of mutually beneficial collaborative opportunities," it added.

The MACC added that Abd Halim also invited Dawoodarry to visit the MACC headquarters here in 2027 to continue discussions and strengthen ties between the two institutions. – Bernama
