PETALING JAYA: Thirteen males aged between 15 and 20 have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a fight between two groups at a temple in Jalan Merdeka, Kampung Baru Ampang, early Monday (Oct 19).
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Khairul Anuar Khalid said police had detected a video of the incident that went viral on social media.
He said the incident was believed to have occurred at about 12.01am, prompting Malaysian Civil Defence Force (Rela) personnel on duty at the location to step in and break up the fight.
“Rela personnel also seized two objects believed to have been used in the incident, namely an iron baton and a baseball bat.
“Following the incident, the temple management contacted the police and handed over all 13 individuals, along with the seized items,” he said in a statement on Monday.
ACP Khairul Anuar said the suspects were subsequently taken to the Ampang Jaya district police headquarters to assist in further investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code and Section 14 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (Atipsom).
He also advised the public, particularly teenagers, to avoid fights and provocations and refrain from using weapons or dangerous objects.
“Parents are also advised to monitor their children's social activities to prevent them from becoming involved in criminal activities,” he said.
