KUALA LUMPUR: More than RM10.04mil in compounds for various immigration offences was collected by the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department during the first six months of this year.
Its director Hamsha Injau said a total of RM10,041,130 in compounds was collected between Jan and June 30.
During the same period, the department filed 845 charges involving 801 foreign nationals from various countries.
Hamsha said overstaying remained the most common immigration offence recorded in Kuala Lumpur.
"A total of 556 charges were filed under Section 15(4) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for overstaying, making it the highest recorded offence during the period," he said.
He said this at a press conference at the Home Ministry's Kuala Lumpur complex on Monday (July 13).
Hamsha said enforcement action would continue without compromise against anyone found violating immigration laws. This includes employers, business owners and individuals found harbouring or employing undocumented migrants.
He also urged undocumented migrants to take advantage of the Migrant Repatriation Programme (PRM) 2.0, which runs until May 31, 2027.
He called on the public to comply with immigration laws and channel information on immigration-related offences through the department's official channels.
