Man injured by falling tree during land clearing work

KOTA KINABALU: A man was seriously injured when the tree he had just cut down fell and hit him in the head on Sunday (July 12).

The 57-year-old and a few others were believed to be clearing land near Kionsom Baru off Tamparuli, some 35km from here, when the accident happened.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department operations commander for Tuaran Norkizan Durudin said they received a call at around 4.10pm and rushed to the scene about 23km from the station to respond.

“Our team arrived around 4.30pm, and saw that the victim had injuries on his head,” he said in a statement.

He said they administered preliminary treatment on the wounds before carrying the man out using a stretcher. The team walked around 700m to the main road and handed him over to a waiting ambulance.

The victim was later taken to the hospital for further treatment, he said.

Operations on site ended at 5.48pm after other hazardous elements had been eliminated.
