Syed Saddiq arrives at Federal Court ahead of final appeal verdict

PUTRAJAYA: Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has arrived at the Federal Court here ahead of a decision on the prosecution's final appeal against his acquittal in the Armada funds case.

Accompanying the 33-year-old politician were his fiancee, singer and actress Bella Astillah, and his mother, Sharifah Mahani Syed Abdul Aziz. They arrived at 8.54am on Monday (July 13).

Syed Saddiq is expected to know at 9.30am whether he will remain acquitted or whether the apex court will reinstate his conviction and sentence. The case involves four charges involving criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of property and money laundering linked to RM1.12mil in Armada funds.

A three-member bench comprising Court of Appeal president Datuk Seri Abu Bakar Jais, Justice Datuk Che Mohd Ruzima Ghazali and Justice Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah is scheduled to deliver the verdict. The decision comes after the panel heard submissions from both parties in December last year.

The Court of Appeal on June 25, 2025, unanimously acquitted and discharged Syed Saddiq. This decision overturned the earlier sentence of the High Court of seven years' imprisonment, two strokes of the cane and a RM10mil fine imposed in November 2023.

The charges included abetting criminal breach of trust involving RM1mil and misappropriating RM120,000 belonging to Armada Bumi Bersatu Enterprise. He also faced two counts of money laundering involving RM50,000 each allegedly transferred into his Amanah Saham Bumiputera account.

The verdict, which had been scheduled for June 30, was deferred to Monday. The postponement occurred after one of the judges on the panel, Justice Che Mohd Ruzima, went on medical leave.
