JOHOR BARU: Barisan Nasional's over two-thirds majority victory in the 16th Johor state election reflects the people's mandate for a stable and capable state government committed to continuing Johor's development agenda, says the coalition.

Barisan secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir (pic) said the coalition was grateful to Johor voters for the strong mandate, describing it as a responsibility entrusted by the people rather than merely a political victory.

"This mandate is not merely a political victory, but a great trust from the people who want a stable, credible government capable of continuing Johor's development agenda," he said in a statement on Sunday (July 12).

Zambry said Barisan, under its chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, had successfully united its component parties and Friends of BN while strengthening its election machinery at all levels, allowing the coalition to campaign on a platform of stability, moderation and practical solutions for the people.

He also credited Johor Barisan chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi for leading the state election machinery with dedication.

"The state government's excellent administrative record, people-centric leadership and clear development direction have become the foundation of the people's confidence in continuing to place their trust in Barisan," he said.

Zambry thanked the leadership of Umno, MCA, MIC, PBRS, PPP and Friends of BN, as well as election workers, volunteers and supporters nationwide for their efforts throughout the campaign.

"The victory belongs to the entire Barisan Nasional family and is the result of our collective effort," he said.

He said Barisan would serve all Johoreans regardless of race, religion, background or political affiliation.

"Barisan Nasional will be the government for all the people of Johor, regardless of race, religion, background or political inclination," he said.

Zambry also reminded all newly elected Barisan assemblymen that their victory marked the beginning of a greater responsibility.

"This victory is not the end of the struggle, but the beginning of a greater responsibility. Serve with humility, stay close to the people and work tirelessly to ensure Johor continues to progress and prosper," he said.

He added that Barisan would continue to uphold a political approach based on moderation, stability, maturity and inclusiveness.
