Man, 30, dies in Sandakan house fire


A fire destroys a house and a shop in Batu Putih, Sandakan, early Sunday, claiming the life of a 30-year-old man.

SANDAKAN: A 30-year-old man was burnt to death after a fire destroyed his home and a nearby shop in Batu Putih Lorong 3, Mile 7, here early Sunday (Jul 12).

The victim was identified as Mohd Zarman Salamat.

The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department said it received an emergency call at 4.56am and firefighters from the Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene nine minutes later.

The blaze completely destroyed a 60ft by 40ft non-permanent house and a 15ft by 40ft shop.

Firefighters brought the fire under control at 5.34am.

Mohd Zarman's body was handed over to the police for further investigation.

The cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still under investigation.
