PETALING JAYA: Congratulations poured in for MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong following Barisan Nasional's victorious showing in the Johor state election, with the celebrations made even sweeter by his daughter Joan Wee's wedding in the United Kingdom.
In a Facebook post Sunday (July 12), Dr Wee shared that while votes were being counted in the Johor state election on Saturday, his daughter Joan's Chinese betrothal ceremony with her future husband, Xander Man, was taking place in London.
Polling day happened to coincide with the ceremony.
"As July 11 was polling day for the Johor state election, I had to be absent from the ceremony to fulfil my responsibilities as a voter and to lead the MCA election machinery.
"I'm sorry that I couldn't be there for your betrothal ceremony on July 11. I'm glad that your mum could represent me and be with you and Xander at this significant moment of your life," he wrote.
Dr Wee added that he would arrive in London at 5.30am on July 13, about two hours before Joan's wedding ceremony with Xander was scheduled to begin.
In the recently concluded Johor state elections, MCA’s candidates had won eight seats, an increase from four seats in the 2022 state elections
The post drew warm wishes from supporters and well-wishers, many congratulating Dr Wee on both the election outcome and his daughter's marriage.
"Double celebration, double happiness!" one Facebook user commented.
"Double congratulations, Datuk Seri! You deserve all this happiness and celebration!" another user said.
