JOHOR BARU: Voters should use their vote wisely in the Johor state election to avoid getting influenced by those who seem to only say the right things, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA president encouraged voters to make their voices heard on the July 11 polling day.

“Others might come and say attractive and witty things during ceramah, but I remind voters to choose a state government that will put food on the table and create opportunities for you.

“Datuk Seri Dr Anwar Ibrahim had also said that he is still Prime Minister whether Pakatan Harapan wins or loses in Johor.

“So why not vote for a Barisan Nasional state government to continue serving the rakyat and let us continue the development plans for the state?” he said during the coalition’s Greater Johor Baru grand finale ceramah in Taman Johor Jaya on Thursday (July 9).

He asked voters to look at caretaker Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi’s professional background as a chartered accountant who has brought in foreign direct investments in the past four years and increased the state’s gross domestic product growth to 8%.

“He has helped multiracial communities through initiatives like Bantuan Kasih Johor and managed the state’s finances well.

“Besides that, he is also hands-on and has personally gone to the ground many times to tackle the congestion issue at the Causeway,” he said.

Dr Wee added that MCA would continue carrying out checks and balances to voice out against federal policies and issues that affect the rakyat.

This includes calling for Putrajaya to suspend or abolish the 8% Sales and Service tax on electricity bills.

He said the electricity rates had risen for eight consecutive months after the Automatic Fuel Adjustment (AFA) mechanism flipped from a rebate to a surcharge, which left households and businesses paying more for roughly the same usage.

Johor will head to the polls on Saturday (July 11) for the 16th state election.
