SEREMBAN: Gerakan plans to contest four seats in the Aug 1 Negri Sembilan state election, says party president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau.
He said the party's focus was on the Repah and Temiang seats, while it would let the Perikatan Nasional leadership determine the other two.
"We are planning to contest only four seats so that we can focus on winning.
"It is pointless to contest many seats but not be able to win any," he told reporters after chairing the party's central committee meeting here on Friday (July 3).
Lau admitted that the party was only focusing on the four seats owing to limited resources.

In the last state election in August 2023, Gerakan contested six seats under the Perikatan banner but did not win any.
The six were Chennah, Chuah, Lobak, Temiang, Mambau and Lukut.
The last time Gerakan notched victories in the state was in 2004 when it bagged the Senawang (now Seremban Jaya) and Bukit Kepayang seats.
It was then with Barisan Nasional.
Asked about the two other seats Gerakan plans to contest, Lau said this would only be revealed once talks with other component parties are concluded.
On why the party was confident of doing well in Repah and Temiang, Lau said this was because it had many members, good election machinery, operations centres and viable candidates to be fielded in the two constituencies.
"We have also carried out many programmes in these two constituencies and are confident of securing support from voters there," he said.
Asked if the decision by the party's Johor chapter to sit out the state election would have any impact on its performance in Negri Sembilan, Lau said there would be none.
"We will also be mobilising our machinery from other states to help our candidates in Negri Sembilan," he added.
