Johor polls: Cops open eight probe papers up to July 2

JOHOR BARU: Police opened five investigation papers (IPs) from Monday to Thursday (June 29 to July 2) in connection with the 16th Johor state election.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said this brings the total number of election-related IPs so far to eight.

He said one investigation paper was under Section 435 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire or explosives.

"Two are under Section 426 for mischief, and two more under Section 427 for mischief resulting in property damage," he said in a statement on Friday (July 3).

He said the situation is calm and under control, with police continuing to monitor social media platforms.

Comm Ab Rahaman said they were working closely with the relevant agencies to detect and deal with fake news and unverified information.

"Stern action will be taken against any party found to have violated the law in a manner that could disturb peace and order," he said.

He also said police have approved 1,435 permits from 1,617 applications by political parties for ceramah and campaign activities related to the election from Monday to Thursday, with 1,155 political activities monitored.
