Johor polls: PH's Guna aims to fix infrastructure issues, bring more jobs to Layang-Layang

SIMPANG RENGGAM: Pakatan Harapan's Layang-Layang candidate Guna Balakrishnan hopes to tackle common issues facing the public, such as flash floods and inadequate street lighting.

He said there was also a need to create new employment opportunities for the people there.

"This area is surrounded by Felda schemes, plantations and villages.

"Unfortunately, over the past 10 years, there has been no growth in modern industries such as processing factories or semiconductor companies to create more employment," he said when met on the campaign trail on Wednesday (July 1).

He added that another issue in the area is internet service disruptions affecting the residents in Felda Layang-Layang.

He said representatives from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) have drawn up a plan to improve the network in the settlements involved to ensure residents enjoy stable digital access.

"(MCMC) provided some information on how we can solve the problem here," he said.

Guna is in a three-cornered fight with incumbent Abd Mutalip Abd Rahim (PN-Bersatu) and Chua Jian Boon (BN-MCA).

The seat, with 25,173 voters, comprises 56.43% Malay, 28.31 Chinese, 12.52% Indian and 2.75% other races.
