MELAKA: Parti Wawasan Negara (Wawasan) aims to contest at least the Bemban and Sungai Udang state seats in the upcoming Melaka polls, as it continues seat-sharing negotiations with its allies, says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah.
The party’s secretary-general added that the number of seats allocated to Wawasan for the state polls on Nov 14 had yet to be finalised.
He said discussions were being held with other parties in Perikatan Nasional, including PAS, Pejuang, Gerakan and the Malaysian Indian People’s Party (MIPP).
"We are ready to contest but have yet to determine the number of seats. Naturally, we want to defend what we already hold.
“At the same time, we recognise that, whatever the circumstances, we cannot contest alone. The choice of logo will also depend on the outcome of the ongoing negotiations,” he told a press conference after attending the Wawasan Baru Melaka roundtable here on Sunday (Oct 11).
Saifuddin said the party will withhold details of its discussions with allies while negotiations continue, adding that there was enough time to reach an agreement before nomination day on Oct 31.
Meanwhile, Saifuddin said Wawasan had prepared its election machinery and was drawing up a manifesto based on views and proposals gathered during the roundtable.
He said the manifesto would reflect both the party’s priorities and its prospective cooperation with allies in facing the state polls.
“The manifesto will not represent Wawasan’s position alone.
"It will also take into account the cooperation being discussed with our allies,” he said.
Saifuddin added that Wawasan had prepared an alternative plan should the court’s decision prevent Perikatan from using its name and logo in the election.
“Whatever the court decides, we have a Plan B to continue our efforts to represent the people’s voice in the Melaka state assembly,” he added.
