JOHOR BARU: Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said all necessary measures are being taken to prevent any serious disruption at the Johor Causeway and other entry points on polling day for the Johor state election on July 11.
He said the ministry has set up a special task force as a contingency measure to address any potential disruptions arising from the ongoing transition from the Malaysian Immigration System (MyIMMs) to the new National Integrated Immigration System (MyNIISe).
The immediate priority, he added, is to ensure smooth travel for voters on polling day.
"The old system is still in use as the transition to the new system is still in progress, so there is always a risk of disruptions. That's why we are putting every safeguard in place to avoid problems on July 11.
"But we are not taking any chances. We have Plan A and Plan B ready to go. That is the directive I have given to the ministry," he told reporters at SMK Bandar Dato' Onn here on Saturday (June 27).
He was accompanied by PKR vice-president Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari to support Pakatan candidate for the Puteri Wangsa state constituency, Dr Maszlee Malik.
On the possibility of providing dedicated lanes for Malaysian voters returning from Singapore, Saifuddin said the government would explore all necessary measures to ease their journey home to vote. - Bernama
