Billions in misappropriated funds to be returned to the people, says PM

PUTRAJAYA: All funds recovered from illegal proceeds through due legal process and court rulings will be channelled back to the people, particularly for education and healthcare, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said billions of ringgit in public funds misappropriated through corruption and abuse of power had been recovered.

“Where action has been taken to seize wealth through the courts and legal process, arising from wrongdoing by companies or individuals, corruption or abuse of power, the amount involved runs into billions of ringgit.

“Today, I declare that all funds recovered from illegal proceeds through the legal process and decisions of the judiciary will be returned to the people, especially in the areas of education and healthcare,” he said in his address at the 2026 National Day Prime Minister’s Address at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) here on Sunday (Aug 30).
