MELAKA: A century of faith at Pak Thiam Keong Temple stands as a testament to the traditions and communal harmony that define the Historic City.
Its chairman Gary Lim said the temple’s 100th anniversary was a reminder of the importance of preserving Melaka’s multicultural identity and safeguarding religious freedom for all communities.
He said the state’s diverse communities had lived alongside one another for centuries, with their places of worship and cultural practices forming an inseparable part of its heritage.
Speaking before a procession marking the temple’s centenary at Jalan Bachang here on Friday (Oct 16), Lim expressed hope that efforts to nurture this harmony would continue for generations to come.
Close to 500 devotees took part in the procession.
The temple was also observing the Nine Emperor Gods Festival, with celebrations having begun on Oct 10.
Lim said the temple, established in 1926, had remained a place of worship and a gathering point for generations of devotees.
He said the centenary provided an opportunity to honour those who had sustained the temple and kept its religious and cultural traditions alive.
"For one hundred years, our temple has been a place of faith, tradition, culture and community. Generations of devotees have continued to uphold our traditions and pass them on to the next generation,” he said.
