IPOH: The number of victims and families affected by the storm incident in the Larut, Matang and Selama districts remained at 55 individuals from 20 families as of Friday (Oct 16) night.
The Perak State Disaster Management Committee secretariat said, in a statement, that all victims are still accommodated at a Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS) operating at SK Matang since it opened on Wednesday (Oct 14).
The affected residents are from Kampung Changkat Baru Matang, Kampung Teluk Kertam, Kampung Melawati, and Kampung Hujung Matang.
"Monitoring conducted by Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel shows that the water level is receding and there is no need to open additional PPS; the number of victims and families at the PPS due to the storm incident days ago remains unchanged," according to the statement.
Meanwhile, the Civil Defence operations control centre stated that periodic monitoring is also being carried out in several flood-prone locations within the district following water overflow in low-lying areas.
According to the control centre, monitoring in Kampung Kubu Hilir within Mukim Bukit Gantang found that river water levels rose but did not overflow, although a village road was submerged and a house was inundated, while current weather conditions were reported to be fine.
As for the Mukim Batu Kurau area, inspections by security personnel in Kampung Ulu Sepetang and along the SK Ulu Sepetang route showed that water levels were receding with the weather recording only a light drizzle.
Earlier, more than 35 houses were reported damaged following an incident involving a storm accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds that hit several areas around the LMS district for about an hour last Wednesday afternoon.
The adverse weather was reported to have blown off the roofs of several residents' houses, in addition to incidents of fallen trees in several villages around Mukim Matang. - Bernama
