62-year-old nabbed for allegedly slashing younger brother in dispute at Air Itam durian orchard

GEORGE TOWN: A 62-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly slashing his elder brother with a parang during a dispute at a durian orchard in Paya Terubong, Air Itam.

Northeast OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rozak Muhammad said police received information about the incident involving the siblings at about 3.50pm on Sunday (June 21).

Investigations showed that the 65-year-old victim had gone to the orchard at about 3.30pm to inspect the premises.

"He found that various items in the orchard house had been damaged and suspected his younger brother was responsible.

"The victim confronted the suspect over the damage and an argument broke out," he said in a statement on Tuesday (June 23).

ACP Abdul Rozak said the suspect then allegedly took a parang and slashed the victim three times before fleeing.

The victim suffered serious injuries and was taken to Penang Hospital for treatment.

Following a swift operation, police arrested the suspect at about 6.30pm on the same day behind the orchard house with the assistance of the state CID K-9 unit.

The suspect has been remanded for seven days until June 28 to assist in investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons and Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act 1994.
