KUALA LUMPUR:Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin arrived at the PAS headquarters here at about 8.30pm Monday (June 22) to attend an emergency meeting of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) supreme council, Sinar Harian reports.

Also seen were Bersatu vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu and Bersatu Armada chief Muhammad Hilman Idham, the Malay language daily reported.

It is understood that the meeting is being held to discuss the membership status of parties within the Perikatan coalition.

According to a notice signed by Perikatan secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan dated June 18, the meeting is to be held pursuant to Clause 10 (Notice of Meeting and Agenda) and Clause 12 (Frequency of Meetings).

The notice was also circulated to Perikatan chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar and the four deputy chairmen — Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Datuk Dr Dominic Lau Hoe Chai, Punithan Paramsiven and Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

Among the issues expected to be tabled at the emergency meeting is the use of the coalition’s name.

Earlier, Perikatan stressed that any activities or meetings using the coalition’s name cannot be held without the chairman’s permission.

According to Takiyuddin, the directive is to ensure that all activities, administrative matters and coalition management are carried out in accordance with the constitution and in compliance with the Societies Act 1966 (Act 832).

Ahmad Samsuri, who is also a PAS vice-president and Terengganu Mentri Besar, was announced as Perikatan’s new chairman on Feb 22.

The appointment was made after Muhyiddin announced his resignation as chairman, effective Jan 1, after leading the coalition since Aug 7, 2020.
