Ministers to answer queries to PM in Parliament while Anwar attends Conference of Rulers meet, says Speaker

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to attend the Pre-Council of Rulers meeting and the Conference of Rulers later this week, therefore, Cabinet ministers will answer questions on his behalf during Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat.

Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul informed the House on Monday (June 22) that other ministers would respond to questions addressed to Anwar on Tuesday (June 23) and Thursday (June 25) because of his commitments at the two meetings.

"For tomorrow and Thursday, Minister’s Question Time will be answered by the relevant ministers as the Prime Minister will be attending the Pre-Council of Rulers meeting and subsequently the Conference of Rulers meeting this week," he told the Lower House.

Johari reminded MPs that Parliament remained the country’s highest democratic institution and the primary forum for debating policies and legislating laws.

He urged members to continue using the Malay language properly, courteously and respectfully throughout the sitting.

In conjunction with the 70th anniversary of Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, Johari also called on MPs to uphold the dignity of the national language and ensure parliamentary debates remained informed, substantive and reflective of a mature democracy.

Separately, Johari conveyed his condolences to Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri and her family following the death of her husband on June 18.

"We pray that Allah showers His mercy upon the deceased and places him among the righteous and faithful," he said.
