Man arrested for allegedly sexually abusing daughter since age six

SETIU: A man has been arrested for allegedly sexually abusing his daughter since she was six years old.

Setiu District Police Chief Superintendent Zahril Asri Mohd Zain said the arrest was made by a police team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Setiu District Police Headquarters on Saturday (June 21) at around 6pm.

According to him, the local suspect was detained following a police report lodged by the victim on June 15.

"The police received a report from a 15-year-old girl at approximately 3.54pm," he said in a statement on Sunday (June 21).

"The victim claimed that in the latest incident on May 29 at around 12pm, she and her younger sister were at home before being called into a bedroom by her father," he added.

Zahril Asri said the suspect then proceeded to commit a sexual act against the victim inside the room. Furthermore, the suspect warned the victim not to tell anyone about the matter.

"Initial investigations revealed that the heinous acts are believed to have been committed by the suspect since the victim was six years old. As a result of the incidents, the victim is now suffering from depression and trauma," he said.

He said a remand application under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code was submitted before the Setiu Magistrate yesterday (June 21).

"The court allowed the suspect to be remanded for seven days from June 21 to June 27 to assist in the investigation under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code," he said.
