IPOH: The Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) is monitoring the area near the 69 Komando Sultan Nazrin Shah Camp in Ulu Kinta here after the discovery of tiger paw prints.
Perak Perhilitan director Dr Pazil Abdul Patah said the paw prints were discovered on Tuesday (Sept 29) after an inspection in the area following a public complaint at about 9.30am.
"Perhilitan has set up a trap in an area, about 1.35km from where the paw prints were found about a month ago.
"Perhilitan is continuing its monitoring in the area, while residents are asked to increase their vigilance and not take risks by trying to approach or track the tiger," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Sept 30).
"We will continue monitoring the situation based on risk assessment and current developments, particularly on the tiger's movement.
“Residents are advised not to approach or try to track the tiger, avoid activities in risky areas and immediately report any presence," he added.
Perak Perhilitan had once captured a male tiger near the General Operations Force camp in Ulu Kinta on Dec 20, 2023.
Dr Pazil said the tiger detected is believed to inhabit the Bukit Kinta Forest Reserve, about 1km from where the paw prints were found.
“The forest reserve is the original habitat for this animal and we believe it came out of the forest in search of food sources," he said.
