KOTA KINABALU: Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah is denying claims he appointed his daughter as the chief executive officer of a company that has been tasked with auctioning off unclaimed vehicles seized by City Hall (DBKK).
"I have never appointed (my daughter) Sharinaz as the CEO of that company. That company is not under DBKK as well," he said in a statement on Thursday (Oct 1).
Sabun announced on Sept 29 that vehicles that had been towed for parking offences could be forfeited and auctioned off if owners fail to claim them within 30 days.
Claims arose on social media that Sharinaz was appointed as CEO of the company said to have been tasked with selling off the towed vehicles.
There is no immediate confirmation if such a company exists.
Sabin said such allegations tarnishes his image and the reputation of DBKK.
He said reports had been lodged against pages spreading such false information, adding he hoped that the police and the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) would investigate.
"Any information relating to DBKK must be verified with our officials before they are shared," said Sabin.
