Grandkids' birth cert numbers bring RM11.8mil jackpot windfall to Perak retiree

KUALA LUMPUR: A 62-year-old retired salesman from Perak, who had regularly placed bets of between RM10 and RM20 per draw for the past three decades, has collected a Toto 4D Jackpot 1 prize of RM11.8mil after striking it lucky with numbers derived from his grandchildren's birth certificates.

The winner claimed RM11,806,469.85 from the total RM12mil Toto 4D Jackpot 1 prize on May 31 after his pair of winning numbers, 1660 and 5093, matched the jackpot combination.

Having played Sports Toto games for about 30 years, the retiree said he never expected his persistence to result in a life-changing windfall.

He said the winning numbers were based on the birth certificate numbers of his two grandchildren.

"My grandchildren have brought so much joy and happiness to our family, but I never imagined they would one day change our lives in such an extraordinary way," he said.

The winner said he was overwhelmed and initially speechless upon discovering his win. After checking the results several times to ensure there had been no mistake, he shared the news with his family.

He said he plans to manage the prize money prudently, with a focus on supporting his family and securing a better future for his grandchildren.

The remaining RM195,148.20 from the jackpot pool was won by a Kuala Lumpur ticket holder who purchased an i-System entry.

Meanwhile, a 65-year-old retired construction worker from Penang has won RM3.5mil in the Star Toto 6/50 Jackpot 1 after a Lucky Pick ticket he purchased matched the winning numbers in the June 10, 2026 draw.

The winner, a loyal Sports Toto customer, said he had been spending RM10 on Lucky Pick tickets for years in the hope of striking it lucky.

He won RM3,499,722.25 with the winning combination of 3, 8, 11, 25, 38 and 42.

The retiree said checking his tickets through the Sports Toto mobile application before going to bed had become part of his daily routine.

However, when he discovered he had won the jackpot, he initially found it difficult to believe.

"I checked the numbers many times. The first thing I did was wake my wife up and ask her to verify the ticket because I thought I might have been seeing things," he said.

The winner expressed gratitude for the windfall, saying it would provide greater financial security during his retirement years.

"My wife and I have discussed our plans carefully. We intend to place the money in fixed deposits and use the interest income to help support our living expenses throughout our retirement," he said.
