JOHOR BARU: Barisan Nasional will not adopt a strategy of attacking its political opponents during the upcoming Johor state election campaign, says its chairman, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Deputy Prime Minister said party machinery at both the national and state levels had been instructed to focus on addressing people’s concerns and offering better policies and solutions instead of engaging in political attacks.

“We will answer if we are attacked, but we do not intend to attack any party,” he said when met after attending Majlis Zikir Peringatan Haul Asmaulhusna held at Masjid Sultan Iskandar here on Sunday (June 14).

Ahmad Zahid said Barisan’s campaign approach would centre on issues affecting the rakyat and on presenting constructive proposals that could benefit voters in Johor and elsewhere.

“Our focus is on offering a better agenda for voters rather than engaging in personal attacks or negative campaigning.

“Barisan’s approach would be implemented not only in Johor but also in other states that may face elections in the future,” he added.

On candidate selection, Ahmad Zahid said Barisan would announce its candidates for the Johor state election about a week before nomination day.

He added that the selection process was currently at its final stage, adding that further details, including the percentage of seats that had been finalised, would be disclosed once the list had been fully endorsed.
