SEREMBAN: Barisan Nasional emerged as the biggest winner in the 16th Negri Sembilan state election after securing 18 of the 36 seats contested, while Pakatan Harapan won 11 seats and Perikatan Nasional took seven, according to the Election Commission (EC).
EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun announced the official results at midnight on Sunday (Aug 2), saying the election had been conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner.

He said a total of 646,084 voters, or 72.64% of the electorate, had cast their ballots, comprising early voters, postal voters and ordinary voters.
The results mean Barisan and Perikatan, which entered the election under an electoral understanding rather than a formal coalition, collectively secured 25 seats - surpassing the two-thirds majority threshold in the 36-seat state assembly.
Earlier on Saturday (Aug 1), Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Barisan and Perikatan would hold further discussions to finalise the formation of the new Negri Sembilan state government.
He added that the two coalitions were in a strong position to govern after securing a combined two-thirds majority.
Ramlan also expressed satisfaction with the overall conduct of polling on Aug 1, saying registered voters had fulfilled their rights and responsibilities throughout the electoral process.
"Overall, the EC is satisfied with the polling process held on Aug 1 and registered voters were able to fulfil their rights and responsibilities.
"There were also no untoward incidents that could have affected the electoral process," he said.
He added that the commission had carried out its responsibilities in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations governing elections.
