PETALING JAYA: The new Negri Sembilan government will be built on an understanding between Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional, while upholding the mandate given by the people, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The Barisan chairman said the mandate came with a responsibility to establish a stable and credible administration, while working to improve the well-being of the people and the state.
Ahmad Zahid said Barisan and Perikatan will seek an audience with the Negri Sembilan Yang di-Pertuan Besar as soon as possible.
He also said all Barisan and Perikatan elected representatives have been instructed to begin serving the people immediately, with no “honeymoon” period following their victory.
“We humbly accept this mandate with gratitude and a deep sense of responsibility.
“The people’s trust is not a reason for us to become complacent or arrogant,” he added.
Speaking at a press conference at Wisma Umno last night, Ahmad Zahid said all pledges in the Barisan and Perikatan manifesto must be implemented without delay.
He said the understanding reached between the two coalitions in the Negri Sembilan election would also be translated into the formation of a stable state government anchored on the people’s mandate.
“The people’s trust in us must be repaid through efficient service. The manifesto is our pledge to the people and will serve as our primary guide in governing the state.
“It should strengthen our resolve to repay the trust that the people have placed in us.”
He said the result would also generate momentum for Barisan and Perikatan to build on their cooperation that began in Johor, which will continue in Melaka.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid was seen arriving at Istana Hinggap, believe to be for an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.
More than 10 vehicles believed to be carrying Barisan and Perikatan leaders, including state Barisan Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, entered the palace grounds at about 10pm.
