THE sudden deaths of hundreds of fish in Sungai Padang Kijang at Tanah Merah, Kelantan, is being investigated by the Kelantan Environment Department, reported Berita Harian.

This comes after residents of Kampung Alor Pasir reported unusual changes in the river’s condition earlier this week.

Villager Mohd Nordin Yahya said residents noticed that the normally murky river suddenly became exceptionally clear at about 7am on Monday.

“This was strange as it had never happened before and before we know it, many fish were seen floating in the water,” he said.

Kelantan DOE deputy director Mohamad Zamzani Ibrahim said officers were dispatched to the site following complaints.

He said water samples were collected for analysis, while preliminary water quality assessments were carried out on-site.

“The samples will be sent to the Chemistry Department in Panji for detailed analysis to determine the river’s water quality and identify any pollutants,” he added.

He said the department is also using drones to monitor the area and identify any activities or potential sources of pollution that may have affected the river.

> Singer Didi Astillah left guests stunned after appearing to lose her temper at a restaurant, only to reveal that it was actually a birthday surprise for her mother, reported Kosmo!.

In a viral video, Didi can be seen raising her voice at a restaurant employee, prompting concern among other customers present including her own mother, Siti Zarina Astillah.

The tense exchange even saw Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, who is the fiancee of Didi’s sister Bella Astillah, step in to help "diffuse" the situation.

It was then that Didi revealed that the dramatic scene was staged as a prank to surprise her mother, who took the incident in stride.
