KUCHING: Malaysia can advance its ambition of becoming an artificial intelligence (AI) nation by leveraging on the newly- launched Bintulu Transitioning Industrial Cluster (TIC), says Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo.

He said the AI Nation 2030 vision is not only about adopting new technologies but also about building national capability and ensuring that AI creates value for businesses, strengthens productivity, supports innovation and generates new economic opportunities for Malaysians.

In this respect, he said the Bintulu TIC – Malaysia’s first under the World Economic Forum – provided an environment for AI to be deployed responsibly and at scale.

“In many ways, the Bintulu TIC represents the convergence of Malaysia’s industrial, energy and AI ambitions.

“It demonstrates how emerging technologies can move beyond experimentation and become practical tools for improving productivity, strengthening competitiveness and accelerating sustainable growth,” he said at the launch yesterday.

Gobind described the Bintulu TIC as a live industrial environment where technologies could be deployed, tested and scaled in real operating conditions.

He said this provides opportunities for Malaysian technology companies and talent to develop and deploy homegrown solutions, build expertise and strengthen the nation’s position in regional and global value chains.

“That is why talent development remains a critical pillar of the Bintulu TIC,” he added.

Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg, who launched the cluster, said the initiative brings together 23 industry players, government agencies, financiers and technology partners under a common framework for industrial transformation.

He said Bintulu would join a network of 39 clusters in 20 countries working on the future of clean and competitive industry.

“This gives us access to international expertise, solutions and strategic partnerships in areas such as clean energy, industrial symbiosis, digitalisation, hydrogen, carbon management, circular systems and workforce development,” he added.
