PUTRAJAYA: A large-scale immigration operation at multiple construction sites, including those for a hangar and an aircraft engine testing site, has led to the arrest of over 170 foreigners.
Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said that the operation earlier on Tuesday (Sept 15) saw raids in multiple locations in Sepang.
"The modus operandi showed that the employers hired foreign workers at the construction site using Temporary Employment Visit Passes (PLKS) issued under other companies, as well as misusing Social Visit Passes in an attempt to evade detection by the authorities.
Following the inspection, the department detained 173 foreign nationals aged between 23 and 40 years old. They comprised 147 Bangladeshi men, 17 Indonesian men and nine Pakistani men," he said.
He added that authorities also issued five summonses to inspected Malaysians to assist investigations.
"All detained foreign nationals were taken to the KLIA Immigration Depot for investigation and further action.
"Action will be taken against any party found to have violated immigration laws, including employers or parties who employ or harbour undocumented migrants without complying with the regulations in force," he said.
