Ipoh cops nab suspects over viral 'Nasi Bajet' cashbox theft

IPOH: Police have detained two local men, known as ‘Paeh’ and ‘Aboy’, to assist in investigations into the theft of a cash box and a mobile phone belonging to a stall operator at Jalan Lebuh Meru Raya here, a case which went viral on social media recently.

According to Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Muhammad Najib Hamzah, the suspects, aged 24 and 36, were arrested in Teluk Intan on Monday (June 8).

"Both suspects admitted involvement in the theft, which is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code, as well as several other criminal cases in the Ipoh district.

"They are being remanded until Friday (June 12) to assist investigations, and the case will be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further action,” he said in a statement on Thursday (June 11).

Police had been tracking down ‘Paeh’, identified as Mohd Faiz Naharoddin, 36, and his brother Mohamad Arif Naharoddin, 25, known as ‘Aboy’, whose last known residence was in Halaman Meru Damai, Ipoh.

In the May 21 incident, the 21-year-old victim was preparing and packing food orders when the two men approached, posing as customers.

The suspects allegedly snatched a cash box and an iPhone 13 belonging to the victim while she was packing food before fleeing on a motorcycle in the direction of the Meru Raya roundabout.

The incident was captured on video and went viral on social media. — Bernama
