AirBorneo apologises for disruptions, reaffirms commitment to reliable service

KUCHING: AirBorneo has apologised to guests affected by recent flight delays and cancellations across Sarawak and Sabah for the disruptions and inconvenience, in a statement on Wednesday (June 10).

The Sarawak-owned airline attributed the disruptions to scheduled maintenance and rectifications of several aircraft at the same time, further delayed by the delivery schedule of key replacement components.

AirBorneo chief executive officer Megat Ardian Wira Mohd Aminuddin acknowledged the impact these disruptions have had on the communities that rely on its services daily but said safety remains AirBorneo's highest priority.

"Our focus now is on restoring reliable service while ensuring every aircraft in our fleet continues to meet the highest standards of safety and airworthiness," he said.

Megat Ardian Wira said AirBorneo has implemented additional operational and maintenance measures to strengthen fleet resilience and support the progressive restoration of normal services.

"Recent events have been disappointing, but they do not change our commitment to serving the people of Sarawak and Sabah. We know we have work to do to restore confidence, and we are determined to earn back that trust through the actions we take every day," he said.

As part of its longer-term plans, AirBorneo is progressing its fleet renewal and expansion programme, including the planned introduction of ATR 72-600 aircraft.

It said the additional aircraft will strengthen operational resilience, provide greater flexibility across the network and support the airline's commitment to safe and reliable air connectivity for Sarawak and Sabah.

Affected guests have been contacted to assist with rebooking arrangements, refunds and other travel support. Meals, accommodation and ground transportation have also been provided where required.

Guests who require further assistance or have questions regarding their travel plans may contact AirBorneo's Customer Care team at +60 82 537 555 (international) or 1 300 22 1388 (local) or visit airborneo.com/en/contact-us. - Bernama
