PETALING JAYA: PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has confirmed that leaders from his party and Umno recently met.
The Marang MP, however, played down the meeting on Thursday (June 4) night, calling it just a regular meeting.
"It was a normal meeting. Whoever wants to meet us, we will meet," Abdul Hadi told reporters at Masjid Rusila, Terengganu.
He said he was informed of the meeting but was not personally involved in the discussion.
He said this in response to the press when asked to confirm the meeting amid growing speculation over a possible revival of Muafakat Nasional.
When asked about efforts to revive Muafakat Nasional, Abdul Hadi said that was just an opinion.
"Our concept, first, is to have Malay-Muslims lead the country," he said.
He added that the multiracial non-Muslim community must be taken into account and cannot be sidelined.
On another matter, he said a decision on whether PAS will continue its cooperation with Bersatu is expected to be known on Monday (June 8).
He said the party's Syura Ulama Council had previously deliberated on the matter.
The council has left it to the party's central committee to determine the appropriate course of action.
"God willing, we will discuss everything on Monday," Abdul Hadi said.
The PAS Syura Ulama Council had reportedly referred the issue of Perikatan Nasional's future direction and the coalition's internal conflicts to the PAS Central Working Committee.
On the Johor state election, he said PAS is studying the matter, including the candidates and seats to be contested.
"We will hear a briefing from Johor PAS on Monday and will decide after that," he said.
Asked if PAS would be contesting all seats, Abdul Hadi said it was not confirmed as they would see the rationale first.
Meanwhile, on the Negri Sembilan state election, he said PAS is likely to contest more than the three incumbent seats it currently holds.
"We have won three seats there and there are also seats where we lost by a slim margin, less than 1,000 votes," he said.
