Efforts to curb gambling in Perlis will continue, says MB

KANGAR: Perlis will continue efforts to curb gambling activities in the state, building on measures introduced by the previous administration, says Mentri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah.

He said the state government remains committed to restricting and eventually stopping gambling operations, which are deemed contrary to Islamic principles.

"We are committed to continuing the efforts initiated by the former mentri besar by limiting or stopping gambling operations in Perlis.

"We have taken into consideration various views, but the effort is a good one in addressing gambling-related issues in the state," he told reporters at the state assembly sitting on Thursday (June 4).

He was commenting on recent developments in Kedah involving restrictions on gambling operations.

Abu Bakar said Perlis would monitor any legal developments arising from the matter but stressed that the state is committed to continuing its efforts to eliminate gambling activities.

"We will wait and see what decisions are made if there are legal challenges or court cases, but we remain committed to continuing the efforts to stop gambling operations in Perlis," he said.
