Foreign man charged with murder of technician in Johor


JOHOR BARU: An Indonesian man has been charged at the Magistrate's Court here with the murder of a technician in an apartment in May.

The accused, Fajar Ali, 29, nodded in understanding when the charge was read before Magistrate Atifah Hazimah Wahab on Thursday (June 4).

However, no plea was recorded.

According to the charge sheet, Fajar allegedly committed murder, which led to the death of a 33-year-old man.

He was alleged to have committed the offence at an apartment on Jalan Dato Sulaiman between 7am and 8.45am on May 12.

Fajar was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years and at least 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.

The case was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nik Noratini Nik Azman, while the accused was unrepresented.

Atifah Hazimah set Sept 8 for the next mention of the case, as well as the submission of the chemistry and post-mortem reports.

On May 14, Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the body of the 33-year-old local man was found at about 11.12pm in an apartment on May 13.

He said a knife, believed to be the murder weapon, was also found near the victim's body.

It was learnt that the victim's body was discovered by his colleague, who went to check on him after he did not turn up for work for two days.
