SEREMBAN: Police have seized 26.4kg of methamphetamine (syabu) worth about RM1.3mil and arrested two suspects in an operation in Port Dickson near here.
Negri Sembilan police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said police also seized 100 vape cartridges believed to contain ketamine-laced liquid worth some RM100,000 during the 3am operation on Wednesday (June 3).
"A police team, assisted by their marine counterparts, first seized 12kg of syabu from two foreigners in their 30s in an unregistered speedboat in Kg Kuala Lukut who were about to leave for Dumai in Indonesia.
"We seized 10 packets of syabu weighing around 1.2kg each declared as a 'Chinese tea product'," he told reporters at the state police contingent headquarters on Thursday (June 4).
The drugs had a street value of about RM600,000.
He said the suspects tried to escape but their boat was intercepted by a marine police team.
Both suspects were also found to have entered Malaysia illegally.
DCP Alzafny said following an interrogation of the suspects, who also tested positive for methamphetamines, police obtained information on the individual who supplied them with the drugs.
"We notified our patrol teams to look out for a particular car, which was eventually spotted near Tanjung Agas.
"The team gave chase and after a few kilometres, the driver lost control of the car and crashed beside an oil palm plantation near Pengkalan Kempas," he said, adding that the driver managed to escape into the bushes.
He said police found 12 more packets of syabu weighing 14.4kg and worth about RM745,000 in the car, along with the 100 vape cartridges.
"We believe the driver worked as a transporter, received the drugs from a source in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, and sent the first consignment to the two foreigners.
"We managed to stop him before he could hand over the second consignment to another buyer," he said.
DCP Alzafny said the escaped suspect is a 42-year-old local man with six drug offences on his record.
He said the two foreigners admitted that this was their fourth trip to take drugs back to their country.
"It was the first time they landed in Port Dickson to get the consignment.
"On three previous occasions, they used beaches in Melaka," he said.
The two suspects have been remanded until Tuesday (June 9) and the case is being investigated under Sections 15(1)(a) and 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
