Johor polls: MCA 'candidate list' on social media is fake, says Ling

ISKANDAR PUTERI: MCA has not released any list of potential candidates for the upcoming 16th Johor election, says its state deputy chairman Ling Tian Soon.

He dismissed a letter with a purported list of candidates shared on social media, saying it was fake and not issued by the party.

"MCA has never issued such a letter and it is likely the creation of irresponsible parties.

"During election season, all kinds of speculation and fake documents will surface especially in this age of artificial intelligence," he told reporters after the state-level World Nurses’ Day celebration here on Thursday (June 4).

He said all announcements regarding candidates would be made through official party channels.

Asked if MCA would field candidates in the 15 state seats it contested in the 2022 Johor election, he said discussions were currently based on those constituencies but the final decision rested with the Barisan Nasional leadership.

Ling, who is also MCA Youth chief, said the party has already identified potential candidates and submitted the list to the Barisan leadership for screening and final consideration.

He added that the proposed candidates comprised a mix of women, young and senior members.
