Eight-year-old girl dies in KL traffic crash

PETALING JAYA: An eight-year-old girl was killed after the motorcycle she was riding on with her parents was involved in a three-vehicle crash along Jalan Cheras on Wednesday (June 3).

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the accident occurred at about 8.18am on Jalan Cheras heading towards Jalan Loke Yew.

He said initial investigations found that the motorcycle, ridden by a 35-year-old man with his 35-year-old wife and their eight-year-old daughter as pillion riders, was believed to have been moving between lanes in heavy traffic.

“The motorcycle is believed to have lost control before crashing into the rear of a car travelling in the right lane.

“A second motorcycle travelling behind was unable to avoid the collision and subsequently struck the motorcycle before falling onto the road,” he said in a statement.

ACP Mohd Zamzuri said the couple’s daughter suffered severe head and bodily injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her father sustained injuries to his waist and both legs, while her mother suffered injuries to her right arm.

“Both are receiving treatment at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz,” he said.

The driver of the car, a 59-year-old man, was unhurt, while the rider of the second motorcycle, aged 47, suffered injuries to his left knee.

ACP Mohd Zamzuri said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

He urged witnesses or anyone with information on the incident to contact the Tun H.S. Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-2071 9999 or the nearest police station to assist in investigations.
