Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) is looking into claims of structural damage to houses after a pipe burst in Jalan Mas 1, Taman Cheras Mas in Selangor.

Its chief executive officer Adam Saffian Ghazali said further assessment was being conducted with the relevant authorities, including an insurance adjuster.

The incident occurred on Jan 2 and involved a 150mm asbestos cement pipe.

Adam said a technical team had been deployed immediately, with repairs and replacement of the damaged section completed by 1.40pm the following day.

He said they were in contact with the homeowners involved, to obtain further information and facilitate the ongoing investigation.

“Air Selangor remains committed to providing full cooperation to the relevant parties to ensure the matter is addressed appropriately,” he said in a statement.

It follows concerns raised by residents Wong Chew Ee and Toh Chun Fah.

They expressed frustration with the slow pace of the investigation.

StarMetro’s report on March 14 titled “Cracks raise homeowners’ worry of subsidence”, the residents expressed worry that their houses were sinking following the underground water pipe burst incident.

After it happened, they said significant cracks had appeared along floors and walls, raising suspicions that the soil beneath their homes had shifted.

The situation had escalated since Feb 8, with both owners claiming that doors in their properties had become difficult to open.

Toh had patched up the cracks on her property on March 13, fearing that rainwater might seep into the soil beneath her house otherwise and worsen the situation.

Wong said she was waiting for Air Selangor’s report on the matter.
