JOHOR BARU: Skudai assemblyman Marina Ibrahim has announced that she will not contest in the coming Johor state election and is stepping away from active politics, ending her four-year tenure.

Marina said the decision was made after discussions with supporters, opting to return to the community-based work that has always been her passion.

“Now, I choose to return to something that has always been close to my heart – being on the ground, engaging with the people and continuing community work,” she said in a Facebook post on Sunday (May 31).

Marina, who won the Skudai seat for Pakatan Harapan in the 2022 Johor election, said she entered the constituency four years ago with a simple goal to serve the people.

Reflecting on her tenure, Marina apologised for any shortcomings, stating: “If there were any matters that did not meet expectations, I humbly seek forgiveness. I am only human and not free from mistakes.”

She expressed gratitude to the individuals from various backgrounds, races, and religions who supported her, describing them as the backbone of her efforts.

She also thanked the voters who supported her on March 22, 2022, and paid tribute to her team's loyalty and sacrifice.

Marina stressed that the conclusion of this chapter does not mean the end of her service to society.

“As long as I am given the opportunity by Allah, I will continue contributing to the community in whatever capacity I can,” she said.

She pledged to remain committed to carrying out her responsibilities on the ground until a new assemblyman is appointed, wishing the people of Skudai continued well-being and prosperity.
