KUALA LUMPUR: Repair works following the Light Rail Transit (LRT) derailment at Chan Sow Lin station are expected to take between three and five days, with services on the affected stretch likely to resume on June 3, says Anthony Loke.
Transport Minister said the derailed train would first be removed from the tracks before repair works could begin.
“Repairs are expected to take between three and five days, and we anticipate the track will be operational again by Wednesday, June 3, after the long weekend,” he told reporters after inspecting the affected site on Friday (May 29).
According to Loke, train speeds will be controlled during the initial stage when services resume, although two-way operations are expected to continue.
Meanwhile, passengers travelling between Ampang and Sentul Timur will face temporary service adjustments as trains will not be able to pass through the affected section.
Loke said commuters could still complete their journeys using the existing rail network, although some would be required to change trains at designated stations.
“For the next few days, train frequency will be slightly longer, at around six to eight minutes between services.
“Passengers who need to transfer trains should expect their journeys to take longer than usual,” he said.
He added that Prasarana would take advantage of the long weekend to expedite repair works and minimise disruption to commuters.
In the early hours of Thursday (May 28), a train on the Ampang/Sri Petaling Line derailed while passing through a track switch area at Chan Sow Lin station.
Rapid KL previously said there were 25 passengers on board at the time of the incident and all were safely evacuated without any injuries.
