KUALA LUMPUR: Former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki is considering legal action against businessman Albert Tei over allegations that he had threatened him in connection with an alleged Sabah corruption scandal.
Azam described the allegations as baseless and said the police report lodged against him was false, insisting that he had never dealt directly with Tei.
“I do not know what this man is alleging. I have never spoken to him directly.
“I also never instructed any lawyer representing me to deal with him directly,” he said when contacted yesterday.
Azam also questioned the motive behind the allegations and urged police to investigate Tei over what he described as false public accusations made against him.
He welcomed police investigation into the matter and would extend his full cooperation to investigators.
“I am also considering taking legal action against him. My lawyers are currently preparing the necessary documentation for this action.”
Azam added that he has already contacted the police to record his statement to assist the ongoing investigation.
On Tuesday, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Comm Datuk M. Kumar reportedly said Azam would be called in to assist investigations into allegations made by Tei on May 13.
The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
Previously, Tei had alleged that Azam threatened, obstructed and victimised him when he attempted to expose an alleged corruption scandal involving several high-profile politicians in Sabah last year.
Meanwhile, Bukit Aman is expected to meet Azam next week over allegations that he threatened Tei.
Comm Kumar said police had contacted the individual implicated in the allegation and would record further statements soon.
“So far, we have established contact and a meeting will be arranged next week,” he said when contacted yesterday.
