Teachers co-op hits RM9mil milestone

THE Perak State Tamil School Teachers Cooperative has amassed assets totalling RM9mil, Makkal Osai reported.

Its chairman C. Vijayan said the society, which serves 1,300 members, had been able to generate revenue from its properties in Cameron Highlands, Genting Highland and Ipoh.

These holdings, along with other investments, had enabled a 2.3% dividend to be paid to its members this year, he said.

> The strained relationship between a college student and her boyfriend came to a breaking point when he forcefully tied the thaali around her neck.

Makkal Osai reported that the woman in Karur city, Tamil Nadu, was distressed when her boyfriend Balamurugan threatened to release videos of him carrying out the forced ceremony.

The symbolic knot is part of the marriage ceremony in Indian weddings. However, forcefully tying it on somebody is not recognised as a valid marriage.

Driven to despair by the harassment and the threat of the video being released and embarrassing her family, the woman drank some poison. Fortunately, she is in stable condition after her family rushed her to the hospital.
