Major anti-narcotics blitz nets over RM14mil worth of drugs, 191 arrested in Langkawi, Klang Valley

KUALA LUMPUR: Some RM14.1mil worth of drugs were seized following a major anti-narcotics operation in Langkawi and the Klang Valley involving 231 raids, says Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan (pic).

The Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director said the raids were carried out over five days beginning April 10.

"The raids were carried out at various locations identified as being involved in drug-related activities.

“The operation also led to the arrest of 191 individuals for various drug-related offences.

“All those detained are being investigated under several provisions of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and related laws.

“Some of them were also identified as drug users and traffickers,” he said on Wednesday (May 14).

Comm Hussein said several of the suspects have since been charged and investigated under various legal provisions.

“Five individuals were charged under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“Four individuals are being investigated under Section 39A(1), two under Section 39A(2), and 19 under Section 12(2) of the same Act,” he said.

He added that two individuals are also being investigated under Section 6 of the Poisons Act 1952, while 128 individuals tested positive for drugs under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“A further 35 individuals are being investigated for various offences and are also wanted by police,” he said.

The total amount of drugs seized in Langkawi and Klang Valley was estimated at 180kg worth approximately RM14.1mil.

He added that investigations are ongoing to identify the wider syndicate network believed to still be active.
