Man found dead after suspected elephant attack in Gua Musang

GUA MUSANG: A 55-year-old man has been found dead, believed to be the victim of an attack by a herd of wild elephants along Jalan Ladang Serasa here.

Gua Musang OCPD Supt Sik Choon Foo said police received a report on the discovery of the victim’s body at 11.38am on Thursday (May 14) near a riverbank close to a rubber plantation.

He said a team from the Paloh 2 police station was sent to the scene to investigate.

"They found elephant footprints and dung around the location, strengthening the possibility that the victim was attacked by the animals.

"Preliminary checks also found no criminal elements involved in the incident, while the victim’s body has been sent to Hospital Gua Musang for a post-mortem," he said in a statement.

Following the incident, Supt Sik advised the public, especially residents living near forest and plantation areas, to remain vigilant.

"Avoid entering areas identified as wildlife habitats, particularly those frequented by elephants,” he said. – Bernama
