Jho Low's US pardon bid to be discussed at next week's Cabinet meet, says Fahmi

KUALA LUMPUR: The issue surrounding fugitive financier Jho Low reportedly seeking a pardon from US President Donald Trump will be brought to the Cabinet’s attention next week, says Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

The Communications Minister said the matter was raised while the Cabinet met on Wednesday (May 13) but was not discussed during the session.

“This issue came up while the Cabinet meeting was taking place and it was not discussed in today’s meeting.

“But it will certainly be brought to the attention of the Cabinet next week,” he told reporters on Wednesday (May 13).

He was responding to questions on whether the government planned to make any formal representation to US authorities opposing the pardon request.

When asked whether Putrajaya had been formally notified by US authorities regarding the alleged pardon application, Fahmi said the matter was outside the scope of today’s Cabinet discussions.

“This matter was not discussed during the Cabinet meeting. I would ask members of the media to refer to either the Home Minister or the Foreign Minister,” he said.

Asked if the government would formally oppose the pardon application, Fahmi reiterated that the matter had not been discussed during today’s meeting.
