SOP enforcement tightened after fatal FRU crash near Teluk Intan, says IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: A year after a fatal accident that killed nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel near Teluk Intan in Perak, Bukit Aman says enforcement of standard operating procedures (SOPs) has been tightened to prevent a similar tragedy.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said stronger enforcement of protocols, especially for large convoys, had been implemented following the May 13 accident last year.

“There have been improvements and revisions to the SOPs and rules so that we can reduce such accidents not only involving passengers but also on highways and elsewhere,” he said when met after the closing of the Royal Malaysia Police Special Dialogue (PSD V) 2026.

He added that new assets and improvements to vehicles already in use had also helped.

“As of now we have also forwarded all required aid and also insurance matters to the families of the victims and it has been conducted properly,” he said.

The accident last year saw nine FRU personnel killed after a lorry transporting sand crashed head-on into their vehicle along the KM15 Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam stretch.
