KUCHING: Sarawak welcomes stronger engagement with German industry players in its growing transport and logistics sectors, says state Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin.
He said specific areas of interest included smart mobility, clean energy transportation, logistics innovation, industrial supply chains and transport infrastructure development.
"We hope the engagement will pave the way for stronger bilateral cooperation and mutually beneficial partnerships between Sarawak and Germany," he said in a statement on Friday (May 8).
Delegates from the Malaysian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MGCC) expressed interest in exploring potential collaboration and investment opportunities during a roundtable discussion with Lee on Thursday (May 7).
Both parties discussed the development of Sarawak's transportation ecosystem, including public transport, aviation connectivity, logistics, port development, sustainable mobility and green transportation initiatives.
They also exchanged views on modernising heavy transportation vehicles and the future development of the logistics and commercial transportation sector.
Additionally, Lee shared Sarawak's long-term vision for transforming its transport landscape with an emphasis on sustainable and technology-driven solutions.
He highlighted the implementation of the hydrogen-powered Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) under the Kuching Urban Transportation System as a key initiative, positioning Sarawak as a pioneer in green public transport.
"This system will be supported by a fleet of 55 hydrogen-powered feeder buses, strengthening Sarawak's commitment towards low-carbon and environmentally-friendly public mobility solutions," Lee said.
He also briefed the delegation on Sarawak's efforts to improve air connectivity and regional mobility through AirBorneo, as well as infrastructure upgrades at airports, ports and lorry terminals to support economic growth, tourism, trade and investment.
