Police detain four over a red paint splashing spree in several states

SEREMBAN: Police have detained four individuals, including three women, believed to be involved in multiple red-paint splashing incidents across Melaka, Johor and Negri Sembilan.

State police chief Dep Comm Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the suspects, aged between 23 and 34, were picked up during an operation in Melaka over the past 48 hours.

He said police received a report at 4pm on Tuesday (May 5) from a houseowner claiming that two individuals had splashed red paint outside his home along Jalan Sungai Ujong near here.

"The complainant said the incident happened about 1am on the same day.

"While the complainant was inside the house, he saw the two approach the front of the premises and throw red paint, which splashed onto the front gate, the front door, and two of the complainant's cars," he said in a statement.

DCP Alzafny said a team was then formed to track down the suspects and they were eventually detained in Melaka.

He said police also seized two vehicles, four mobile phones, a red paint drum and one red paint can as well as several pieces of clothing with red paint stains on them from the suspects.

Two of the suspects had past records for drug abuse and one for offences under the Moneylenders Act 1951.

DCP Alzafny said the four are being probed under Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief that causes damage to property.

Offenders can be jailed between one and five years or fined or both upon conviction.

The suspects have been remanded for four days until May 10 to assist in investigations.
